At Uniper, safety shoes are required for any work outside offices. This is because many activities involve a risk of standing on sharp objects, or objects falling on feet. There are also a number of workplaces with hot surfaces. To minimise these risks, safety shoes worn at Uniper must have an S3 code (or S5 code for boots), and must be heat-resistant. This means that safety shoes must have the following features:
- special safety toecap that protects against falling objects and collisions;
- impervious insole;
- profiled sole;
- closed heel;
- antistatic properties;
- energy-absorbing heel;
- waterproof shaft;
- Oil, acid and grease-resistant;
- Heat-resistant up to 300ºC.
Depending on the workplace and the work, you can use high or low safety shoes. A low safety shoe is more comfortable for kneeling or bent-over work, but offers less protection to the Achilles tendon. A high safety shoe gives better support to the ankle on an uneven surface, and protects the Achilles tendon. High safety shoes must be used in a number of units.
