Safety helmets requirements at Uniper Benelux
An appropriate safety helmet is required to protect the wearer’s head against mechanical, thermal and electrical hazards. The helmet must be designed to protect against both falling objects and the risk of impacts in restricted areas, as well as exposure to cold, heat, molten metal or electricity. Safety helmets must meet the requirements described in the EN-397 standard.
Two specific requirements set by Uniper are resistance to heat and that helmets are white. Heat-resistant helmets are made of glass-fibre reinforced polyester, or textile reinforced phenolic resin.
Standard safety helmet
The standard safety helmet for Uniper employees is the 3M Peltor G22/C. The helmet must be replaced if its service life has been exceeded, or if the helmet is damaged or has suffered a blow.
The 3M™ G22 Industrial Safety Helmet is designed to provide reliable head protection. The safety helmet is provided with slots which make it easy to fit hearing protection, headsets and visors. The edge of the helmet and the harness were designed to make hearing protection comfortable. Pinlock and leather sweatband.

Replacement of helmet
A helmet must be replaced after a fall or collision, even if there is no visible damage. A helmet with deep scratches must be replaced. It is not allowed to drill holes in the helmet. A helmet must not be left in the sun for long periods, as this accelerates the aging process. A helmet must not be covered with stickers, as glue accelerates the aging process.
A glass-fibre reinforced safety helmet has a maximum service life of 10 years. You can check the service life of your helmet by looking at the date of manufacturing on the inside of your helmet and the instruction manual.
Check if your helmet may still be used, and if in doubt contact the safety officer. Be careful: an aged helmet offers insufficient protection.
