Industrial Cleaning

Industrial Cleaning Policy

Uniper’s policy is to only allow industrial cleaning to be carried out by SIR-certified companies (SIR = Stichting Industriële Reiniging, Industrial Cleaning Foundation).

General information

The aim of the SIR is to promote and regulate safe working practices in industrial cleaning. The SIR, which first defended this interest in the Netherlands, has also been active in Belgium since 2003. The SIR demonstrates the effectiveness of self-regulation concerning safety in an industry.

In order to achieve the objective of working as safely as possible in industrial cleaning, the SIR is active in a number of areas. The primary concern is the adoption of guidelines, where all the parties operating in the industry are involved. Thanks to the unique composition of these parties, a balanced and acceptable result is always achieved. The adopted guidelines apply to the entire industry in the Benelux. By signing the SIR policy statement, all affiliated companies commit themselves to compliance with the guidelines. The power of this collaboration within the SIR is that all parties recognise the real risks of industrial cleaning and accept the appropriate guidelines. Since SIR guidelines are unambiguous, unsafe work situations are reduced to a minimum.

The SIR’s fields of operation include:

  • High pressure liquid cleaning
  • Pressure/vacuum cleaning
  • Chemical-technical cleaning
  • Respiratory protection – Use of Life Support Units

Industrial cleaning is a dynamic field, and the SIR is continuously monitoring it. The SIR has a stimulating role in the development of safe equipment. The SIR is also actively involved in the development of safe working methods. The foundation regularly updates its guidelines to reflect current events. The network of steering and working groups, in which representatives of all sectors of the industry have a seat, ensures that developments in the field are incorporated into regulations, training and exams. The composition of these groups is always proportional to the parties associated with the SIR, so that the interests of each party, which may sometimes be contradictory, can be considered in the final guidelines.
