General
The following general rules apply to safety clothing:
- Short sleeves and shorts are not allowed;
- Flame retardant clothing must be worn during welding or burning;
- Never wash workwear at home.
Additional requirements may apply per unit/department/location, or according to the type of work.
Closed workwear in the right size
Workwear must be buttoned or zipped up. If clothes are available in different sizes, the best size for the wearer must be purchased. Wearing scarves or loose clothing during manual work, or when working on rotating and other machinery, is prohibited.
Emergencies
Clothes soaked with chemicals must be removed immediately to prevent ignition, poisoning or damage to the skin. Dispose of disposable clothing as chemical waste. Rinse other protective clothing with water if possible, then hand in for cleaning.
Maintenance/Cleaning
Dirty safety clothing must be handed in at the designated places.
Damaged safety clothing may not be worn, but disposed of or repaired professionally.
After working with hazardous substances, expert specialist cleaning is advised. When dealing with CMR substances (carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic), daily cleaning is the preferred option. Disposable clothing is preferable for very dirty work with CMR substances. Highly soiled clothing that cannot be rinsed in advance must be handed in inside a sealed plastic bag.
